The Goings and Comings

A post-Cambodian update. I'm in Laos and up until yesterday it was hardly as a-MAY-zing as everyone had built it up to be. After finally leaving the other tourists behind I've gotten a little slice of normal life in-country.

Tippy Shippy

Sometimes, traveling the way I am, uninformed decisions need to be made. A coin was flipped a couple days ago and this is what happened.

Country Roads Take Me Home

Ratanakiri province is a jungle forest populated by ethnic minority hill tribes. It is spectacular in its beauty and makes the perfect salve for a contused will. I'm adding some older entries that I neglected to add previously, so look back a week or so for new old stuff.

Nipped in the Bud

Just as I was starting the "adventure" phase of my trip I was tripped up by a rather vicious intestinal infection. Fever, loss of orientation, wrenching cramps (I feel for you girls), expulsion of all sorts, etc. Three days locked in a guesthouse halfway to the Laos border with ten bottles of water and one bottle of Cipro seems to have done the trick. On the up side, I lost several pounds and now have the cleanest colon in southeast asia. As soon as I find an internet place that doesn't cost a fortune I'll update the blog. Sorry to keep you hanging folks!

Sousedei Ch'nom T'mai

That means happy new year in Khmer, and a foreigner can create a hundred smiles by saying it aloud in the middle of a remote village. I just returned from four days in the country with my buddhist brother Eson. Any attempt to describe how great that experience was would be inadequate. Unfortunately I'm leaving Phnom Penh right now, so I'll have to wait until tonight to post a full entry. There is a chance that there will be no internet access after today, so if you don't hear from me for ten days or so, don't worry. Or maybe worry a little bit, but don't call the white house or anything.

The Village

Rather than do the standard play by play, I'm just going to present a few moments or impressions or facets, perhaps, of my experience in Eson's village. It's tough to write about it as an event or series of events because there were so many strong personal interactions that occured between me and others, me and myself, and amongst the others that I was with. People were so honestly open and friendly that it's near impossible to relate. You had to be there I guess.

Monk-y Business

My new visa for Laos is cool, but not as cool as the two buddhist monks I hung out with yesterday.

Phnom Penh Stories

It took a few days, and a few pains in the rear, but I'm finally getting to like Phnom Penh.

Holiday in Cambodia

It's weird not being in Vietnam. New language, new people, new environment. Dang! Just when I was getting the hang of things.

Cops, Collisions and Coldies

One day in Saigon made up for all my puttering lately. You may file this entry under Misadventure - in between Mania and Moronic.
